Welcome Damaris Reed!

2016-2017 Art Therapy Intern

Hello all, my name is Damaris Reed and I am very thankful for the opportunity to work here at Alton High School this school year as an Art Therapy intern.

I am excited to get to be a part of the team here positively supporting and encouraging the students in their growth.

My art therapy experience thus far has consisted of being an art enrichment provider at a Head Start in East Saint Louis, an art therapy intern at Cardinal Glennon Children’s Hospital, and an art therapy intern at Queen of Peace Center for recovering women.

I am currently completing my last year in the Masters of Art Therapy Counseling Program at SIUE where I am researching the connections of Attachment Theory to Christian and non-Christian spiritualities and how the findings impact art therapist training.

Please stop by any time, I would love to meet you all and answer any questions you may have!

Alton Community  Unit School District has maintained a positive working relationship with the Art Therapy Counseling Masters Degree program at Southern Illinois University in Edwardsville since the District's school-based art therapy program was started.

Most school years the district has benefited from having one or two art therapy interns who provide art therapy services under the supervision of the district art therapists and the university's professional staff.  With parental/guardian consent, students selected to work with the interns are provided full art therapy services for the duration of that school year.

New School Year 2016-17

Dear art therapy students and families:

Welcome back to the 2016-2017 school year!

The Alton School District’s Art Therapy team is once again excited to be highlighting some of the wonderful happenings that will be taking place again this year in the art therapy program through the use of the ACUSD Blogsite that we launched last year.
Art Therapy provides a much needed creative outlet for students who have met the district’s criteria for social and emotional support services who are finding traditional “talk-based” supports to not be effective on their own.  Using the art materials as their primary communication tool, the student works with their art therapist to develop and practice essential skills to help them focus and cope with challenges effecting their school day.
We invite you to return to the Alton Art Therapy blogsite and explore all of the information we share throughout the year.

You can access the blogsite in one of two ways:
1)     Enter the following link:    http://acusdarttherapy.blogspot.com/
2)    Scan the following QR code using your QR reader on your smart phone and link directly to the blogsite:

Please consider subscribing to our main blog and individual pages to be alerted when new posts are published by entering your email address in the "Follow by Email" section on the right.

As always, we value and appreciate your support and interest in the art therapy program!

Sincerely,

The Alton Community School District Art Therapy Program
