Fabia D’Amore-Krug, ATR-BC, LPC, NCC

Licensed Clinical Professional Counselor in the state of Missouri

National Certified Counselor
Art Therapist for Grades 6th– 12th

What is your Education Background?
I graduated with my Bachelor in Arts (major in Psychology and minor in Art) and my Master’s Degree in Art Therapy Counseling at Southern Illinois University Edwardsville.

How long have you worked for the Alton School District?
After graduating with my master’s degree in 2006, I was immediately hired by The Alton School District. Since the beginning I have been working with students grades 6-12.

What interested you in becoming an art therapist?
The combination of psychology and art really intrigued me. I was particularly interested in learning how visual art could help individuals to communicate their thoughts and feelings without necessarily the use of verbal communication.
What do you like about your job?
I believe my job gives me the unique opportunity to offer a space where teens can feel comfortable to create and share their inner self using art. I find this aspect of my job particularly exciting especially considering the positive impact it could potentially have in the life of young people.

When you do your own art, what do you do?
I like all types of art. I enjoy drawing, create three dimensional art, and even get lost in traditional craft projects. I like to experiment with different materials and I am ready for the surprises that come from it. However, there is one medium that I really enjoy overall and this is oil painting. I love the softness of this medium and the possibility of layering paint over and over. I find oil painting relaxing and inspiring.

What do you enjoy doing when you are not at work?
When I am not at work I try to balance my time between my family and a group of friends who are very involved in physical activities. Together we motivate each other to stay healthy. In addition, I like to travel with my family and visit my relatives and friends in Italy as often as possible.
