2020-2021 Art Therapy Interns

Meet the 2020-2021 Art Therapy Interns

Our school community has already begun to benefit from the energy and professional efforts of this year's interns from SIUE's Art Therapy Counseling Graduate Program.

The Alton School District art therapists wish to formally welcome
Ms. Haruka Kawata-Inglish and Ms. Yolanda Vidal to our team.

We have asked them to share a little bit about themselves for your information.

Ms. Haruka Kawata-Inglish

Hello everyone, and Kon-ni-chi-wa!

My name is Haruka Kawata-Inglish, and I am a third-year Art Therapy Counseling student at Southern Illinois University Edwardsville. I am originally from Japan, and I moved to St. Charles, MO when I was 18 years old to pursue my education in Pre-Art Therapy at Lindenwood University.

During the 2020-2021 school year, I will generally be at Alton Middle School on Mondays and Alton High School Fridays, under Mr. Schwartz’ supervision. I’m looking forward to meeting students, parents/guardians, teachers, and staff, and sharing time and space together (no matter where we are, in-person, or on the computer screens!) Let’s be kind to ourselves, and reach out to me if I can be of help.

Ms. Yolanda Vidal

Hello everyone!

My name is Ms. Vidal and I will be the art therapy intern at Mark Twain for the 2020 - 2021 school year. I will be at Mark Twain on Mondays and Wednesdays with Mrs. D’Amore. I am beginning my second year in the art therapy counseling program at Southern Illinois University Edwardsville. My background is in psychology and studio art, and I enjoy drawing and painting in my spare time. I have had different opportunities to work with individuals from various populations and settings and through these experiences, my love for the field of art therapy has only grown. I am extremely excited to work with some of you this school year and can’t wait to get to know you.
